Duel Playing Cards | Vanda Artists Series – Live on Kickstarter!!

Facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinterestby feather

This 2D, Harlequin-esque, minimalist, basically-designed deck of playing cards is an absolute must-have for the serious collector. Or even the not so serious collector. Or for you, even. Look at it. It’s beautiful. What would YOU do differently……? Can’t think of anything? No wonder.

Duel Playing Cards are live on Kickstarter right now and there’s just over 2 days left guys…..!!

{Anyone who wants to know any more about the workings of Kickstarter please click HERE for a breakdown.}

Duel Playing Cards

‘Duel Playing Cards’ by Vanda, designed by London-based graphic designer & illustrator Joelle Wall, (please click on the link – you’ll be waaay impressed) are a breath of fresh air within today’s playing card Kickstarter world. All too often (toooooooo often) designers have tried to come up with some sort of ‘minimalist’ design that suits no one but their own egos, and which does nothing for the visuals of playing cards, nor for the act of ‘playing cards’ itself. This deck, however, is different. Better. More. There is no ego here. Only pure talent.

The designs are crisp, clean, sharp. The colours are simple. Yes, I know there are those who whine on about the whole ‘traditional black and red pips’ but get real folks!! No one follows “the rules” anymore. We can all differentiate between blue and red. It’s not a great hardship.

Printed by the United States Playing Card Company (USPCC) on their Bicycle stock with Magic finish, these cards are good to go for the collector, cardist, magician or flourisher in any of us.Duel Playing Cards

This deck is fun, it’s different (in a good way) and it’s USABLE. What I mean is that you sit round a table with your friends and family (as I so often do) and you are having a game of Poker, Rummy, Jack Change It, Snap!, Old Maid, etc. etc. etc. and not only do you KNOW what each card is in a simple fan, but you WANT to know what it looks like on it’s own. So you just take it out and look at it. {This is how I get to know what my Mum has in her hand when I’m playing Poker with her… I make sure that I use a deck that’s really interesting, that she’s never seen before, and I memorise all the face cards…. Then when she looks at one and says “Ah…. look at the blue flower she’s holding….” I know it’s the Queen of Clubs!!! Ah-ha!!!! Hey. It’s not cheating ok….? We do what we must. Besides…. she always gets an Ulster Fry when she stays with me so it’s kinda like her paying for the ingredients…….. oh, shut up!!Duel Playing Cards

Whatever, anyways, the ‘Duel Playing Cards’ deck by Vanda is only one of the Vanda family of decks. (Click on the link). The uncut sheet…..??? What? I haven’t mentioned the UNCUT SHEET?????? Well, here it it…….. in all it’s glory…..Duel Playing Cards Uncut Sheet

Definitely one of the best uncuts I’ve seen in a while. Not to be missed :)

Competition time!!! Are you on Instagram……??? I’m not, so I have no hope, but you can be in with a chance of winning 24 decks – just click on this LINK. You have 2 days left….!!!!!

As someone who has collected many different things during my lifetime, I found this website very interesting. Although cards are not exactly something I would like to collect, you almost persuaded me to do so and that is very impressive. The visuals you use really bring the page alive. Great job

Thank you Jaime. I always love it when I can at least make other people think of maybe even perhaps looking into possibly getting interested in playing cards – that means I’ve done my job :):):)

This is interesting. I am so used to the traditional black and red playing cards. The characters seem like they are about to jump out of the card. Love it and will try these! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for commenting Shireen. This is a really nice deck – I have the uncut sheet too. Just waiting to decide which wall to hang it on :):):)

Those are beautiful cards. The design is so soft and subtle… it’s truly a piece of art. I work with entrepreneurs on a daily basis, and it’s amazing the talent that’s out there. And Kickstarter is one of my favorite places to visit to see what a innovator has come up with next. Thanks to this post, I’m off to surf Kickstarter for a while.

Playing cards is awesome! I love to play Blackjack and Texas Hold’em (just not… in the casino). I’m just tired of losing my money on the tables. I was just thinking about starting a community card night. Duel Playing Cards deck by Vanda sounds like an awesome way to get that started!

Duel would definitely be a great deck to get people together and talking about cards. A great deck to start with – you could maybe introduce new decks every meeting to keep up the interest :)

Duel is an awesome deck of playing cards! I’ve never seen anything like this before. The uncut sheet has got to be my favorite one, that was pretty sick. I liked the artwork on all the cards as well. I’m sure that this will get funded on Kickstarter like it deserves. What a brilliant deck!! :)

These are great looking playing cards – I’ve never seen anything like these before. My family and I are big Disney fans – and these remind me of some of the artwork I’ve seen there – maybe Alice in Wonderland? They definitely look like art more than playing cards – I like the framed uncut sheet you show – I can even see individual cards/groups being framed. They are really nice – thanks for sharing.

Thank you Jeff. You’re right with the Alice in Wonderland reference… I can see that. And I love the uncut sheet myself…. definitely a collectors item :)
